  • A quick clean-up after a walk
  • Occasional licking while resting
  • Moderate, with no change in behavior

When is it a sign of a problem?

If you notice:

  • Excessive, persistent licking
  • Redness, swelling, a wound, or an unpleasant smell
  • The dog becomes anxious or withdrawn

Possible causes of paw licking

  • Allergies (food, pollen, chemicals)
  • Pain (a wound, a foreign object, arthritis)
  • Boredom or stress
  • Parasites or fungal infections

What can you do?

  • Check the paws after every walk
  • Wipe and dry them thoroughly
  • If it keeps happening – a vet visit is a must!
